If you’ve picked up a recent copy of Non-Sport Update or attended a recent Philly Non-Sports Card Show, you might be familiar with Retro Drive’s Blood Drive: The Parody Collection. The upstart company has been advertising the series in NSU‘s pages for quite some time now and has distributed promos both inside the magazine and at the Philly Show. Today, the series’ Kickstarter has gone live.
For those unfamiliar with Blood Drive, the company explains the series is a”new vintage style trading card series with a bat named Radar lampooning pop culture franchises over the last fifty years.” The collection includes cards parodying Star Trek, The Mask, Star Wars, Beetlejuice, and many other properties you will be very familiar with.
Retro Drive’s Kickstarter starts with a $20 minimum which nets you 4 wax packs. And when they say “wax packs”, they mean it! The product is manufactured by SideKick who knows a thing or two about making cards in the old and classic style. Each pack includes five cards, one sticker, and one stick of (inedible) gum. Pledge levels go on up from the $20 minimum and include the 80-card base set for $40, hobby box for $90, and box and album for $125. There are also $300 and $1,000 pledge levels. Many “add-on” items are also up for grabs for those who choose one of the pledge levels and you really owe it to yourself to read over the full Kickstarter if you are interested in supporting the project. And we hope you will! Projects such as these from smaller card producers are greatly needed within the hobby and really add some diversity to our wonderful hobby.
For those of you in the Northeast, be sure to come out to the Philly Non-Sports Card Show on October 15 & 16 in Allentown, PA and meet with Retro Drive in person.
