Tonight is Preview Night for the 2015 edition of Comic-Con International. As always, there is a tremendous amount of media surrounding the show and to that end, it seems to grow with each year. Those looking for trading cards at Comic-Con will need to do some sleuthing as the main focus these days are the high profile movie and television announcements.
Over the few weeks and days, we’ve seen several announcements. First up is Breygent Marketing. Look for limited-edition Women of Dynamite and Jurassic Domination sets by artists Rhiannon Owens, Tim Shay, and Gary Kezele. All three artists will appear at the Breygent Marketing table (#735) for signing sessions so be sure not to miss them. Breygent Marketing will also be handing out promo cards for Bates Motel Season 2 and Dexter Seasons 7 & 8.
We’ve seen other announcements from artists Justin Chung (free promo card with purchase of his $20 pinup print; booth #5560) and Randy Martinez. Martinez does not have a booth this year but if you are lucky enough to find him in the crowd, ask for one of his The Art of Randy Martinez promo cards featuring Star Wars art.
Upper Deck has announced several products of note. The company will offer a six-card Avengers set with each card featuring an embedded patch. The cards will sell for $20 each or if you purchase them all, you get the discounted rate of $100. The cards feature Iron Man, Black Widow, Captain America, Thor, and The Incredible Hulk. There’s also an Ultron card which is exclusive to Comic-Con. Only 150 sets will be sold each day.
Hello Kitty fans should be on the look out for Upper Deck’s Hello Kitty dog tags which each come with a matching oversized card. There are five dog tags/cards to collect and they are priced at $10 each or $50 for the set (note that one of the dog tags/cards is only available when purchased as a set). Only 125 sets will be offered each day.
If you’re at Comic-Con on Saturday, be sure to stop by Upper Deck’s booth for a special signing. Actor Brian O’Halloran will be on-hand to sign a promotional blow-up card from Upper Deck’s new Clerks trading card set. O’Halloran played Dante in the movie and has been in just about every Kevin Smith title.
And finally, Upper Deck is launching UD Gallery at Comic-Con. UD Gallery is a new portfolio of premium, limited edition posters that feature all original artworks of fan favorite comic and movie characters. The first poster features Daredevil by artist Chris Thornley. The 24 x 36 print will be available in two versions. The standard version is priced at $59.99 and strictly limited to 250 prints. You can find that one for sale at the new Upper Deck website: upperdeckgallery.com. A variant print version will be exclusive to Comic-Con. Only 100 of these will be available and they’ll be priced at $99.99. Both are hand-numbered and come with a certificate of authenticity.
Upper Deck plans to offer a new print each month and those who would like to receive advance word on upcoming products can sign-up at the website link above.
“We have been fortunate to work with so many amazing artists on the launch of UD Gallery,” said Ben Swiderski, Content Manager at Upper Deck. “The vast array of art styles they bring to each release will give collectors something unique and exciting to look forward to each month.”
