We haven’t yet reported on comics in this space much but when we heard a Doctor Who/Star Trek crossover was in the works, we felt we had to…well, make it so.
IDW Publishing promises to take readers where no man has gone before with the release of Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who Assimilation2. The comic has the Borg forming an unholy alliance with the Cyberman, putting all of mankind in jeopardy. Captain Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise will join forces with the Doctor and his companions to protect the galaxy.
“This is a perfect partnership for not only Doctor Who’s incredible fans, but also for the brand. We have just celebrated our most successful year yet. Doctor Who’s latest season delivered record ratings for BBC AMERICA and it was most downloaded full TV seasons of 2011 in the U.S. on the iTunes Store,” says Soumya Sriraman, executive vice president Home Entertainment and Licensing.
The story arc will last eight issues and will be written by Scott and David Tipton, authors of critically acclaimed Star Trek: Infestation, along with longtime Doctor Who writer Tony Lee. The comics will feature fully painted artwork by J.K. Woodward (Fallen Angel). A rare wraparound photo cover will be found at comic shops and artist Joe Corroney, who has worked on many trading card series including Star Wars Galaxy, Lord of the Rings, Thunderbirds, and Xena, will provide a variant cover featuring the Doctor and friends aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise.
Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who Assimilation2 (32 pages, full color, $3.99) will be available in shops in May.
