Garbage Pail Kids Book

Written By: Roxanne Toser - Mar• 15•12

Oh the good old days of Garbage Pail Kids. Unless you were collecting or selling the stickers during the years of 1985 and 1986, it’s hard to explain what a phenomenon this was. It was an exciting time and non-sport card collecting was certainly on the map. Teachers and some parents hated the stickers but the kids loved them. Even though some of them were nasty, the art was terrific.

Abrams has issued a 224-page small coffee-type table book showing every colorful sticker in the first five series. There is an interesting and informative forward written by Art Spiegelman and an afterward written by John Pound. The cover is like the wrapper to the first series with the famous Adam Bomb image. There are four previously unreleased stickers included with the book.

The index needs a little explaining because there were variations in some of the series. Die-hard collectors needed all of the variations. For example if you’re looking for Schizo Fran in the second series, you are told to turn to page 61 where you will see Double Heather. Underneath Double Heather, the names of Schizo Fran and Fran Fran appear. Both of these were variations stickers and perhaps this could have been explained better but it’s a wonderful book available for $19.95. NSU is now pre-selling the book via our online store.
