San Diego based metal band Cattle Decapitation was inspired by Topps Garbage Pail Kids and had GPK artist Tom Bunk create a set of five stickers featuring all four band members and a sticker featuring the entire band. While the stickers and band name are right up the alley for GPK enthusiasts, the band’s songs are actually pro-animal rights and lyrics put humans in the place of animals being abused or mistreated. The stickers were created to promote thier newest release Monolith of Humanity. It should be noted that while inspired by Topps Garbage Pail Kids, this is not a Topps produced issue.
GPK has also inspired other musicians, as pop punk band Osaka Popstar has also been featured on actual GPK stickers issued by Topps. A GPK inspired sticker was also included in copies of their Rock’em O-Sock’em Live! CD release.
More information regarding these stickers can be found on the bands’ respective websites (Cattle Decapitation, Osaka Popstar). A gross but welcome addition to any GPK collection, and a chance to pick up some new music as well!
