The Doctor returns in Doctor Who Timeless, the 2nd entry in Topps new line of DW trading card products. “Timeless is a very different trading card set,” said an enthusiastic Mark Von Ohlen, brand manager for the new collection. “First off, the base content is all new and makes a real effort to cover the best time traveling tales from the entire series, going all the way back to Season 1 in 1963. There’s a ton of imagery in here you haven’t seen before. Most importantly for collectors, the autograph list is really impressive. We used sticker autographs so we could maximize the signer list and have flexibility to pair subjects together for duals and triples. We’re especially excited with the dual autograph list which includes David Tennant & Billie Piper, Tom Baker & Peter Davison, Peter Davison & Colin Baker, Colin Baker & Sylvester McCoy, Sylvester McCoy & Paul McGann, Paul McGann & Eric Roberts, Billie Piper & Noel Clarke, and John Barrowman & Eve Myles. We also doubled the number of costume pieces we are including in Timeless vs. the prior set and added signed costume relics for David Tennant, Billie Piper, Arthur Darvill, Alex Kingston, and Silas Carson.”
Originally scheduled for a May release, Timeless has been pushed to mid-June. Noted Ohlen, “We moved the release to better align timing for new retailers and distribution channels. Topps’ Doctor Who Timeless will be available in hobby shops and on BBCShop.com plus a few additional locations to be revealed very soon.”
In spite of the title of this latest set, Topps’ Doctor Who is definitely not caught in a time loop. “This is really just the beginning for Topps and Doctor Who,” Von Ohlen assured. “We got out our first product just a few months ago and we are working diligently on finalizing Timeless and bringing in some other high-profile autograph signers for the set. We also have some great promotions coming up with the BBC I can’t reveal quite yet. But be on the lookout for some gift-with-purchase Topps cards coming soon in other Doctor Who items. Then later in the year we’ll be doing some convention exclusives for the BBC and likely expanding our offering into oversized cards. Finally, we are working on a third set, with a street date to be determined. It may come out late in 2016 or early 2017. We have an exciting year across the entertainment portfolio at Topps, in particular with Doctor Who. Like the TV show, I hope our relationship with Doctor Who goes for another 50 years”!
