‘Tis the season to be merry and I really did feel merry when the new Mars Attacks Martian model arrived from Moebius Models. In September of last year, the theme for the Philly Non-Sports Card Show was Mars Attacks. Topps was once again reviving the 1962 franchise to the delight of the many Mars Attacks fans. To help make the show really exciting, we reached out to all of the licensees who were producing Mars Attacks items related to the cards. We received many prizes for the show but not everything was available in time.
Frank Winspur of Moebius Models was very friendly but did not think the planned Martian model would be ready. Winspur founded his company around 2005 after Polar Lights, a division of Playing Mantis, discontinued most of the Aurora model line in 2004. The first kit he released was a reissue of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. This was the last of the famous Aurora models to be reissued and is valued by collectors. He had been a distributer for Polar Lights. He founded his company because he wanted to fill a void and continue a tradition. And that he did. Some of the great kits he has released are: Lost in Space, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Battlestar Galactica, DC Comics, and Universal Monsters.
The realistic looking Mars Attacks Martian Warrior model (realistic looking to those of us who are Mars fans) when completed is almost 12 inches tall. There appears to be seven detailed pieces. Paint and glue are needed. When completed, you will have a wonderful collectible.
The year 2013 has certainly been a memorable year for Mars Attacks collectors and the Moebius Mars Attacks Martian Warrior Model issued late in the year is, indeed, a very merry year ending, with hopefully more Mars Attacks items becoming available in 2014.
