Our temporary slowdown of the NSU blog has left us a bit behind on our review of Topps second Doctor Who series, Doctor Who: Timeless. Regardless, and as Topps readies Doctor Who Extraterrestrial Encounters, we’ll bring you up to speed on what our box of Timeless yielded.
Base cards in Doctor Who Timeless cover the entirety of the long-lived series. As one might expect, more focus is given to modern day Doctor’s with 62 of the 100 base cards devoted to the series rebirth in 2005. Topps devotes one card to the 1996 television movie and the remaining 37 base cards highlight episodes from the first 26 years (and seven doctors) of the series. Our box contained one complete 100-card base set.
Every pack contains one green foil parallel base card and as expected, we received 24 of them (and all unique numbers!).
Moving along to the more limited parallel levels of blue (numbered to 99), purple (numbered to 50), red (numbered to 25), and gold (all one of one’s), our box contained two blue parallels.
Packs contain five different insert series: Doctors Across Time (13 cards, our box contained all 13 and then some); Companions Across Time (10 cards, our box contained all 10 plus two dupes); Exterminate! Daleks Across Time (10 cards, our box contained 6); Historical Figure Cards (12 cards, our box contained 2); and Time Travelers (10 cards, our box contained 2). These inserts are very nicely done and make a great addition.
Boxes also contain random autograph cards, double autograph cards, triple autograph cards and parallel versions of most of the single autograph cards. Collectors will also find printing plate cards for the base cards and autograph cards. Our box did not contain an autograph card but we did receive a magenta printing place for base card number 23.
Doctor Who Timeless also contains relic and signed relic cards. We were not lucky on this front. Finally, lucky collectors will also find commemorative TARDIS medallion cards (in bronze, silver, gold, and platinum) and singed TARDIS medallion cards (limited to 10 each). We pulled a silver TARDIS medallion card from our box.
Doctor Who Timeless is a terrific release. Fans of the show 53 year old series will get a great overview of the series by flipping the series.
