On Monday, we told you about MNS Cards’ plans for Comic-Con International. If you are lucky enough to be at Comic-Con this weekend, be sure to visit their booth (#5616) for The Art of Robert Aragon promo cards, Convention Packs, and MNS grab bags, not to mention all of the other trading card related activities at Comic-Con such as the awesome offerings from Breygent Marketing, Topps, Upper Deck, and others. There’s quite a bit of news on Comic-Con offerings on NSU Card Talk.

MNS Cards sent over The Art of Robert Aragon for our review. This factory boxed set come packaged in a very nice tuck box. Each factory set includes an entire 72-card base set, three “Masters of Menace” cards, four “The Faces of Fear” foil cards, and one “Gothic Treasures” wood card. Factory boxes also contain two to four randomly inserted cards which might be any of the following: autograph cards, sketch cards, prop cards, printing plates, and redemption cards. The biggest chase will be the randomly-inserted Vincent Price cut signature card. And in addition to what’s inserted in factory boxes, there are also case topper cards, multiple-case-purchase incentive cards and promos. There’s so much inserted  that it’s probably beyond the scope of the blog to list them all here and so we recommend readers take a gander over to the MNS website for more details and Jeff Allender’s House of Checklists for a full rundown.

Base cards run through Robert Aragon’s very diverse art. You might think of Aragon for his mastery of horror (and that is on display in droves in the series) but there are also celebrity portraits (Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, and others), whimsical cards, and other varied styles. Collectors will find Aragon’s work from books and magazines, CDs, and other media. The backs contain a brief quote about the work on the card front from authors, artists, Hollywood-types, and even Boris Karloff’s daughter and Bela Lugosi’s great granddaughter.

Our factory set contained all 72 base cards as well as the expected number of “Masters of Menace” cards, “The Faces of Fear” foil cards, and “Gothic Treasures” wood card. We also found an autograph card signed by Carla Laemmle, an actress who has many film credits from the silent film era and who continued to work until her unfortunate passing last month. Also inside was a Colin Clive sketch card by artist Don Pedicini Jr. and an advertisement card for Aragon’s “Bela Lugosi is Dracula” fine art print. We were also lucky enough to pull a redemption card for a sketch card set.
