Comic Con International logoWhile there were a lot of cool activities outside the convention center, inside was where everyone wanted to be. I had no desire to stand in line for hours just for a panel so I spent most of my time on the convention floor. The one panel I did go to was the Holliston panel on Thursday night. It was fun and I hope they are back next year.

If you wanted a chance at autographs from any of the BIG shows/films, you had to be at the convention center early for a chance to get a winning ticket for a chance to get autographs (sometimes actors had other places to be and couldn’t sign for everyone). I didn’t feel like dealing with any of that either; Instead I opted for the “no-ticket needed” signings. I managed to snag autographs from the producers/voice actors of Disney’s Phineas and Ferb, Kevin Sorbo, Doug Jones and Reggie Bannister (see my upcoming Monster School blog for more on that). I also picked up many autographs at the Dark Horse Comics booth including Gail Simone, Duncan Jones, Tara McPherson, Eisner-nominee Katsuya Terada, and J. Michael Straczynski (aka JMS). Dark Horse also had signings at their booth with Joss Whedon and the Falling Skies cast, but those required tickets and I didn’t manage to snag one. One of my favorite moments was meeting Lilo & Stitch creator/artist Chris Sanders. I love his art and manged to luck out and get a quick sketch from him in addition to the posters and sketch books I purchased from his booth.

Based on the displays on the show floor, it seems as if 2013-2014 will be a big year for Pirates. ABC’s Once Upon a Time booth was a Pirate ship, Starz booth was Pirate-themed to promote their upcoming series Black Sails, and there was a Pirate ship on the marina side of the convention center. The Power Rangers celebrate their 20th anniversary this year and they probably had the biggest presence on the show flo0r. There were at least four to five different booths either featuring Power Rangers merchandise or with one the Power Rangers on-hand to sign autographs.

I’m not going to mention the trading cards as they’ve been covered on the blog, although make sure to keeping up with the NSU blog as I will have a more in-depth entry on Monster School trading cards that were given out at SDCC next week.
