Cathy Kendrick, who runs an amazing Star Wars site (starwarscards.net), has started the process for a charity auction taking place at the end of September and into early October. A site’s family member was recently diagnosed with ALS (also called Lou Gehrig’s disease). There is currently no cure for this disease but funds are needed for research and the ALS Association provides patient services to those affected.

How Can You Help?

First, items are needed for the standard mini-auction format.

1. Items with a value of $10 or higher (this will be the starting bid for all auction lots).

2. Items that are small in size and easy to mail in bubble envelopes.

3. Items folks on Cathy’s site would want to buy and enjoy owning (Star Wars, Trading Cards, 501st Items, Sci-Fi Stuff…..).

Second, postage is needed. She always covers the postage of these mini-auctions. She is committed to never charging postage costs as part of the auctions, so ALL funds are paid directly to the charity. If you don’t have items to donate for the auction, sending some postage would greatly help (the post office sells $1 and $2 stamps).

Have no interest in donating, but want to help? You can always just make a donation.

Lastly, when the auction starts, please bid on items and please spread the word to your friends. Right now, you can spread the word about donations. Do you know Star Wars artists? Ask if they will consider donating a custom card.

There is a page set up already for the ALS event, which is October 15, 2011. Cathy is set up as a Virtual Walker (not going to the event, but raising funds). This will be where donations will be made: http://web.alsa.org/goto/swtcgivesback

Please spread the word about this upcoming event. She would like to start posting in September what auction items are available. Her ambitious goal is to have 100 auction lots for this auction.
