The Great American Cereail Book

Marty Gitlin and Topher Ellis has produced a 368-page book all about cereal boxes. The book is being distributed by Abrams Books. It’s a hard-bound, very colorful book (SRP $19.95; 368 pages with 350 color illustrations). There probably isn’t a kid on earth who hasn’t eaten cereal at one time or another. This book brings back memories of favorites from our childhood and serves as a historical record of various non-sport cards, stickers, decals and posters found both inside and outside the cereal boxes, as well as send-away offers. There are six pages listing all of the names of the athletes found on the backs of Wheaties, the Breakfast of Champions starting in 1934. Non-Sport Update’s current issue Vol. 23 #1 has a colorful article about Space Patrol cards and you can see a picture of the Space Patrol cards offered on the front of a Rice Chex box. This is a great book to add to your library.

And if you’d like more information on cereal box collecting, read Dave Thompson’s informative Beyond Non-Sports column in the Dec 11/Jan 12 (Vol. 22 #6) edition of Non-Sport Update.
