The Melty Misfits 2nd Series boxThe Melty Misfits 2nd Series is due for release shortly. The trading cards and sticker series comes from artist Buff Monster and we’ve written about Buff Monster and The Melty Misfits several times previously on the blog and in Non-Sport Update. The 2nd Series was a KickStarter project which collected four times its initial funding goal of $10,000, proving how popular Buff Monster and his art is.

In a recent press release, Melty Misfits is described as follows: “a series of ice cream characters in funny situations; an homage to Garbage Pail Kids cards from the 80s” and we couldn’t have said it better ourselves. The new series features 41 new characters, all hand-painted using acrylic and airbrush on watercolor paper. Packs retail for around $5 and inserts include original sketch cards, signed cards, foil cards, lenticulars, variants and errors (yes, they meant to include them!). The top insert is a Golden Ticket card which will reward the lucky collector who finds it with an original Buff Monster painting. There are two Golden Ticket cards in this release.

To celebrate the release of the series, Buff Monster will be signing the new cards, as well as a variety of items including toys, prints and uncut sheets of cards at PIQ’s NYC store in Grand Central Terminal (Shuttle passage, 89 E. 42nd St., New York, NY 10017). The signing takes place this Saturday, September 20th, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. If you are in the NYC area, be sure to stop by. Buff is a huge fan of Garbage Pail Kids and a lot of fun to talk to. PIQ is also a great place to visit. The PIQ stores merge the feeling of being in a modern gallery with shopping. They specialize in current trends and carry designer toys (especially vinyl collectibles), plush, books, rare pieces, and urban gifts from various international brands. In addition to New York, they have locations in Orlando and Las Vegas.

And for those not able to make the trip to NYC, your wait for The Melty Misfits 2nd Series is just a little bit longer. PIQ will get the series first to coincide with Buffy Monster’s signing on September 20th and will have a two week exclusive on them. After that, they’ll be available at buffmonster.com and a variety of retailers.

Melty Misfits fans will also want to check out the upcoming Dec ’14/Jan ’15 issue of Non-Sport Update for an exclusive Melty Misfits 2nd Series promotional card (promo card number P3). And in addition to that, show attendees at the upcoming Philly Non-Sports Card Show on October 18 & 19 in Allentown, PA will be treated to a second exclusive Melty Misfits promotional card (promo card number P2).
