Yesterday, Upper Deck released Super Hero Squad. The product is a trading card game featuring Marvel heroes. There are 300 base cards with all the usual Marvel characters you know and love including Spider Man, Iron Man, Wolverine, Thor, Captain America, The X-Men and more.
Super Hero Squad also features an online component. Reward codes can be found in every pack and can be redeemed in the online game for a digital “Rise of Heroes” pack of TCG cards. ‘Loot cards’ are also randomly inserted into card packs and are a tough pull. These can be redeemed for exclusive items including playable characters within the online game.
“Based on the success of the ‘Super Hero Squad’ online game, we know there will be a strong interest among those players in the new ‘Super Hero Squad’ TCG we are offering,” said Jason Masherah, Upper Deck’s vice president of Marketing & Business Development. “We expect to get some mainstream interest from Marvel fans with ‘The Avengers’ movie coming out in just a few short weeks. We believe this is a property that has evergreen potential with great characters and an awesome game-play experience. We are also looking forward to supporting the TCG with an Organized Play program and we are committed to growing the property over time.”
There are four distinct “themed” single player intro packs: Spider Man, Iron Man, Wolverine and Hulk. Each of which includes 30-card theme deck, one rare foil card, one collectible coin and a booster pack per intro pack. A two-player intro pack is also available, which pits The Avengers against the X-Men. The two-play intro packs include two 30-card theme decks, two exclusive play mats, two rare foil cards, one collectible coin and two booster packs. Booster packs are also available. These contain six common cards, three uncommon cards, and one rare or super-rare foil card. Super Hero Squad is now shipping.

I could have swore that super hero squad has been out because they are already selling them at dollar tree in Tennessee. The packs and the decks are there. I have had my deck for over a year.

Rex….The new product is a trading card game. The Super Hero Squad cards that you are talking about are traditional trading cards (i.e. what is normally covered here on Non-Sport Update) and you are right — those came out in 2010.
