Voting for the first annual Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Awards is now underway. The awards celebrate creativity, skill, and fun within the comics industry. The nomination process includes both fans and a jury of comics professionals. The nomination process is taking place now through the Ringo Awards site. Categories include best cartoonist, best writer, best series, best cover artists, and many more.
As noted, this is the inaugural year for the “Ringo Awards” and the award recipients will be announced on Saturday, September 23 at the Baltimore Comic-Con. The awards are named for Mike Wieringo, who is best known for his work on DC Comics’ The Flash, Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four, and his co-creation Tellos. Wieringo past away in 2007. His art was used in several Marvel, DC, and WildStorm card series including the 1995 DC versus Marvel and 1997 Fleer Ultra Spider-Man series. He also contributed sketch cards to the later series.
