A few weeks ago, a blog called “Wonderful Wonderblog” caught my eye. I started noticing a lot of links from the blog to our own new blog and that the blogger often writes about non-sport cards. I tracked down the blog owner and found out that he’s also an NSU Card Talk member. Small world, huh? I decided to contact the blogger in hopes of doing a brief interview.

Erick Bognar, 45, has been blogging on Wonderful Wonderblog for five years. On Bognar’s blog, you’ll find everything from DVD news to tributes to the recently deceased to show reports. Here is just a bit about him.

How long have you been collecting non-sport cards?

I remember buying cards in the early/middle 70s. Things like Wacky Packages, Wanted Posters, Monster Initials, Star Trek, King Kong. But, I didn’t really start collecting until Star Wars came along.

Have you been to the Philly Non-Sports Card Show? Any other shows? Any memorable show stories you would like to share?

I’ve never been to the Philly Show. But, I’d love to go some day. I’ve been to the Pittsburgh Comicon and the Monster Bash several times. I don’t really have any memorable show stories. I just like the nostalgia and buying stuff from my youth. I also enjoy meeting celebrities and getting their autograph.

You are also a member of our forum under the user ID “Monsterama2000”. Do you have any Card Talk related stories to share?

I don’t have any good Card Talk related stories either. I’m kind of a lurker I guess. I do read the forum every day to keep up on what’s going on.

What are your favorite cards?

I like lots of different types of cards. But my favorites would probably be anything Star Wars or Marvel Comics related.

What else do you collect?

What don’t I collect?! I collect comic books, magazines, toys, action figues, autographs and lots more. My favorites are The Incredible Hulk, Star Wars, KISS, Universal Monsters, Micronauts, Planet of the Apes, etc.

I see on your blog that you are music fan. Can you tell me more about that? What type of music do you listen to? Do you go to many concerts? Other then being a listener, have you been involved in music in any other way?

I’m mostly into heavy metal music. I like KISS, Alice Cooper, Rob Zombie, Type O Negative. But, I like many other genres also. Classic country, 80s hair metal, movie soundtracks, Halloween and Christmas music. I’ve been to many concerts over the years, but I’ve slowed down the past few years. Concerts are just too expensive. Last month I went to an Alice Cooper show and I saw KISS last year. I worked at a music store for 10 years. But, I can’t sing or play an instument.

What do you do for a living in the “real world”?

I’m an order selector at the Jo-Ann Fabrics Distribution Center.

When did you first start blogging?

A little over five years ago.

What do you blog about?

Anything geeky or dorky. A lot of pop culture stuff from the 70s and 80s. Or just anything that catches my eye.

What got your started with the blog?

Many years ago I somehow stumbled upon some other pop culture type blogs. I thought “I can do this.”

I see that you have been blogging about Amurol Product’s Bubble Funnies. Since you are a music fan, did you collect my all-time favorite hobby-related product, Chu-Bops, also by Amurol?

I love Chu-Bops! I bought the first couple of series when they came out. I even bought the “album” that you could put them in.

I buy the Non-Sports mag everytime I’m home but I’m sad to say, it’s usually sold out when I seek it. I am glad to count Erick as a web-friend and am truly proud that he has been featured in your mag.
Sad to say, I’ve never heard of Chu-bops,but I’m cognizant of every other reference he makes. Love the obits, he’s the first one I turn to when an icon snuffs it!
