Seems like we’ve been writing a lot about Kickstarter projects lately. Topps’ Mars Attacks: Occupation finished its run on Monday with a final take of nearly four times its goal (in case you are wondering, that’s just shy of $200K). We wrote about Monsterwax’s Dinosaur Galaxy a week or so ago. The project is also at nearly four times its original goal with eight days to go. Which brings us to a couple of new Kickstarter campaigns—one from a familiar source and another from a long-unheard-from friend.
Remember FPG? The Pittsburgh-based company released many terrific fantasy and scifi related card series in the mid-90s. The company is back and has its first Kickstarter offering online for The Art of Ploog. If you collected cards in the mid-90s, you will likely be familiar with Ploog’s name and awesome art from the 1994 trading card series FPG released and the 1996 collection of stickers. Ploog also contributed art to FPG’s Guardians and Wizard of the Coast’s Magic the Gathering collectible card games. His artwork has also appeared on cards from Comic Images, Rittenhouse Archives, Topps, Upper Deck, and others.
The Art of Ploog is a 320-page book and is quite extensive. Included is commentary from Ralph Bakshi, John Carpenter, Roy Thomas, and others. The standard book runs $49 while the signed and numbered edition (limited to 175) runs $125. Editions with storyboards for The Thing, Dark Crystal, Little Shop of Horrors and another with Planet of the Apes comic art pages are also available.
The Kickstarter campaign has already topped its $18,500 goal and many of the pledge levels are already sold out, including the top tier $2,450 Art Lovers Package, so don’t procrastinate on this one! Once again, you’ll find all the details on the Kickstarter page.
In other Kickstarter news…RRParks Cards has just launched its fourth Kickstarter campaign for Gary Saves The Graveyard trading cards, based on the horror-comedy web series. In the series, Gary (played by Jim Santangeli) has become the new graveyard caretaker and discovers he must play referee to living corpses who return from the dead each night.
RRParks Cards’ Gary Kickstarter started with a very modest campaign goal of $333 and nearly immediately reached that goal. There are over two weeks left in the campaign, however, so there’s plenty of time left for you to participate. Rewards include promo cards, promo card sets, 50-card (or more) base card sets, and more. There will also be autograph cards and those that contribute to the top reward level of $75 will get two plus a sketch card.
The Gary Saves The Graveyard campaign is quite small compared to other recent Kickstarter trading card campaigns. The campaign description notes: “The bulk of the project is already covered but need just a little bit more financial help with some last minute expenses. So backer reward levels are VERY limited in number. If I end up getting more than what’s needed then I’ll update this campaign with stretch goals.”
We’re previewing some of the cards from RRParks CARDS’ campaign above and you can see the Gary Saves The Graveyard trailer below. And don’t forget to check out the Kickstarter campaign before it gives up the ghost.
